The 99th Nijmegen march started with 46.000 registered marchers, including over 5000 military marchers lodged in Camp Heumensoord. In the end, 40.092 marchers successfully completed the event, among them 23 participants coming from our International Marching Team Brunssum. After 160 kilometres, blisters, pain and sweat, Major General van Griensven, DCOS PLANS JFCBS, proudly presented the Nijmegen medals to the AIMT finishers including LTC Gheorghe Gherghe, the first Romanian military finisher in the long history of this marching event (!). One of the many highlights was the parade over the Via Gladiola, the final 5 kilometres into the city centre of Nijmegen. This year, a Dutch bagpipe group and the AWACS marching team from Geilenkirchen accompanied the AIMT, proudly carrying all NATO flags (cover picture). Overall, this marching event is a must-see. If you haven’t experienced the hospitality of the Dutch and the thousands of cheering and celebrating spectators along the marching route and in the villages, you have definitively missed something during your tour in the Netherlands. Next Year Again! In 2016 the Vierdaagse will celebrate its 100th anniversary and the Allied International Marching Team its 40th. Two good reason to join the team! Next year, the Vierdaagse will take place from 19th till 22nd July 2016.
